Recovery Systems

So you want to get your PC back?

Two New Theft Recovery Systems Give Hope of Recovery

Datamation is pleased to announce the release of two revolutionary programs that, for the first time, can help recover stolen notebook and desktop PCs - the CyberAngel EXR Encryptor™ and the Compu-Trace Theft Recovery System™.

CyberAngel is a state-of-the-art monitoring and access control system that uses a proprietary Alert, Lock, Encrypt, and Locate technology to provide a total data security solution.

ALERT – CyberAngel notifies you of any unauthorized attempts to access a computer or communicates with you whenever a stolen computer is being used—from anywhere in North America and from many major countries in Europe. The CyberAngel software silently calls into a monitoring center (using caller-ID technology) which then reports important security information directly to you by fax or e-mail.

LOCK – CyberAngel locks any unauthorized user out of access to networks, on-line services or any use of your communications ports. You can even activate this feature with "hot keys," allowing you to leave your PC or notebook safely unattended while you are at meetings, lunch, etc.

ENCRYPT – CyberAngel includes state-of-the-art "on-the-fly" encryption – protecting selected directories without effort. You choose the algorithm you need: DES 56 bit, Blowfish 488 bit or EMD-2. This feature is very simple for users to use and requires little corporate administration. (NOTE: The U.S. government has approved CyberAngel EXR for export…allowing your users to use data encryption overseas, if needed.)

LOCATE –CyberAngel provides you with a report that includes a map of where your stolen computer is being used from. The report includes information such as the date and time of the call, the phone number from which the computer is being used, the call’s transmission type, or the IP address (if hooked up to a network). This information can be provided to local police departments who use it to obtain a search warrant, thereby recovering your equipment and allowing them to prosecute the thief.

By combining sophisticated but simple-to-use encryption, access control and post-theft reporting, CyberAngel EXR is quickly becoming the total security solution and a data security standard for many Fortune 500 companies.  Get more details

Another approach is the CompuTrace Theft Recovery System™: an inexpensive software program that installs on virtually any DOS™ or Windows™ PC equipped with a modem. Using leading-edge "stealth" technology similar to that used by a sophisticated virus, CompuTrace hides from detection and cannot be removed, except by the licensee.

Once activated, CompuTrace TRS silently and transparently makes a regularly scheduled call to a toll-free tracking line. If the PC is stolen, the user calls an 800 number, reporting the theft to the CompuTrace Computer Registry, which then waits for a call from the stolen device.

When a stolen PC calls in, CompuTrace’s monitoring service identifies the originating location of the call, and the local authorities are notified.

CompuTrace includes an annual monitoring fee (which covers the cost of all calls to the tracking line), registration in the CompuTrace Computer Registry, technical support, and tracking and recovery if the computer is stolen.

In many cases, either of these fine recovery systems can help you get your data back before it falls into the wrong hands. Research shows 90% of retrieved computers are left intact because software applications represent significant value.
